A Message From The Superintendent

Posted Date: 2/07/25 (8:45 PM)

Dear Members of the BCSD Family,

Let’s start there, right in the greeting … family … because we really are.

This is a school community that I believe is uncommonly connected to each other. Those connections support the work that is done and the overall school experience in so many ways that ultimately lead to better outcomes for students and families. The atmosphere and practices of being a school family also mean that we’re there for each other during the highs, the lows, the challenges, and the triumphs.

Our school community experienced a significant tragedy as we returned to school from Winter Break. We will continue to keep Sarah Liccini and the rest of Annie Mancuso’s family in our thoughts and prayers while we endeavor to always remember with love the incredible spirit and person that Annie was as a student here and friend to so many. During a moment of tremendous loss, it was the school family that provided one another with amazing comfort and care. Thank you for all that you did to support each other and the immeasurable ways that you wrapped your arms around all involved with love, support, and care.

As the new calendar year has progressed, many in our community have experienced challenges as the world grapples with emerging and ongoing conflicts, naturals disasters, and significant shifts in public policy in the midst of political division. My simple reflection and message is this: School is a place that can and will provide comfort, care, consistency, and engagement.

We are not oblivious to the challenges that many face, and this note is not intended to demonstrate a lack of concern or awareness. Rather, my intention is to simply say that we look at this as an opportunity as a family to keep supporting each other and the important experience that school is each day. Policy changes and pronouncements aside, you can always count on us to care about and for all of the human beings before us, around us, and among us. You can continue to count on us to focus on the needs of all and excellence for all in everything that we do. This requires in no uncertain terms, care for all. Every child, every day, in every way remains who we are as a family. You can count on it and we appreciate everyone in this family being a part of it.

Sincerely,
Kevin
