Visiting Author Alicia Klepeis Teaches Council Rock About Nonfiction Writing

Posted Date: 5/06/25 (8:16 PM)

Council Rock Primary School was excited to host author Alicia Klepeis on Friday, May 2.

From color-changing animals to global candy preferences, Klepeis loves to research and write about fun and out-of-the-ordinary topics that bring the world to young readers. She began her career at the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. and was a middle school world geography teacher for years. Today, she is the author of more than 200 kids’ books, both nonfiction and fiction. Her titles include “Gutsy Girls Go for Science: Astronauts;” “Penguins & Polar Bears: A Pretty Cool Introduction to the Arctic and Antarctic;” and “Secrets of the Forest: 15 Bedtime Stories Inspired By Nature.”

Klepeis taught students about the research and writing process from the idea phase all the way to the finished book.

Each class at CRPS did their own research in Library and illustrations in Art class! CRPS library media specialist Adele Mockevicius and art teacher Mackensie Galusha prepared students for the visit by researching, writing, and creating on different topics. Second graders studied famous people, first graders studied pets, and kindergarteners studied wildcats.

To celebrate, each student received a CRPS Researcher sticker, Nonfiction Writer pencil, and keepsake bookmark with Alicia Klepeis' signature on it.
Each classroom also now has an Alicia Klepeis book to keep!
